浙江青田石(Zhejiang
Qingtian Stone) |

青田石出产于中国浙江省青田县城南郊山口、方山一带矿体中。最早用于治印,名声较大。 |

Qian Tian Stone was
produced in Qing Tian County, Zhejiang Province. Since
this kind of stone was firstly adopted as he chop material,
it shares great popularity in the world. |

此石始采于宋代(公元960~1279年)。初仅用于雕刻动物、器皿杂件。至元明易代之际(1340年左右),
会稽王冕用青田花药石刻印, 开用石材治印之先。明嘉靖年间(公元1522~1567年),“印祖”文彭用青田石刻印,
印石从此登上艺术殿堂。 |

The stone was firstly
mined at Song Dynasty (960~1279). At the beginning, it
was used for carving animals and utensils. In 1340, Wang
Mian used Qing Tian Stone to carve chops. It was the earliest
record of stone as the chop carving Material. In Min Dynasty
(1522~1567), Wen Peng, the chop art ancestor, used Qing
Tian Stone to carve the art chop (applied Chinese calligraphy
in chop). Since then, stone chop has been a popular art
in China. |

青田石质地细腻, 便于雕凿, 是石雕、石章的理想材料。明代即有“价重于玉”的记载。一九一五年青田石雕、石章参加巴拿马国际博览会并荣获金奖,
从此名重天下。 |

The grain of Qing
Tian Stone is fine. It is an ideal carving material. There
was a record illustrating the quality of the stone in
Ming Dynasty: “Qing Tian Stone is more valuable than jade”
. The Qing Tian chops and carvings was awarded the gold
medal in Panama International Fair in 1915 and it gained
considerable fame in the world. |

青田石中质量较差的,人称青田根,数量甚多,是火山岩形成的高岭族矿体与其它岩体的混合体,
质地粗, 杂质多, 仅能作为学习治印用材。 |

Most of the Qing
TianStone belongs to Kaolinite earth family stone combining
with other mines. Its grain is rough and contains a lot
of foreign matters. People called it “Qing Tian Root”,
which can only be used for carving studying. |
