内蒙巴林石 Menglie Balin

巴林石产于内蒙古昭盟地区林西至大板一带，为近几十年开采的新矿。矿石蕴藏量很大。与寿山石、昌化石、青田石相比，其冻石产量较大，石品色泽非常接近昌化石、冻度要超过昌化石。巴林石是中国已发现印材中冻度最好的石材，但除了藕粉冻地等少数品种外，与三大名石相比，大部分缺乏通灵和细腻，石质也较为脆、涩，篆刻时易“蹦刀”。有些篆刻家利用此特性刻豪放的作品，但总的来说，与三大名石相比有一定差距。 |

Balin Stone is produced
in Lin Xi to Da Ban area, Zhao Men District, Nei Monggol Autonomous
Region. It is a new mine recovered in the nearly tens years
with aboudant deposit. Comparing with the above mentioned three
kinds of stones (Shoushan Stone, Changhua Stone, Qingtian Stone),
the quantity of “jelly” stone, a kind of translucent to transparent
stone, is much larger. The color of this kind of stone is similar
to that of Changhua Stone and the degree of “jelly”, transparency,
is superior to that of Chang Hua Stone. The degree of jelly
of Ba Lin Stone is the highest among Chinese carving stone.
By comparing with the above three famous stones, Balin Stone
is fragile, brittle, hard-going and easy to burst, though people
may use it to carve in a bold and flowing style works. |

已发现的巴林石埋藏较浅，许多为近地表开采。其主要品种也分为冻地石和与山坑石。 |

The discovered Balin Stone
lies in a shallow earth. Most of them are revealed near the
ground. There are two major kinds named Water Pit and Mountain
Pit. |

冻地石透明度较好，质以藕粉冻地[图1.4.1]为最佳,

其中的珍品为鸡血石，也是因含有辰砂(HgS)所引致，但血较散，少有类似昌化鸡血石的片状块血[图1.4.4]。 |

The transparency of the
Water Pit Stone is the highest. The best Water Pit Stone is
the Lotus Root Starch earth stone [picture 1.4.1], then Ox Horn
Jelly earth stone [picture 1.4.2], Yellow Jelly earth stone
[picture 1.4.3], etc. The treasure of Ba Lin Stone is also called
Chicken-blood Stone [picture 1.4.4]. Most of “blood” of Ba Lin
Chicken-blood Stone is “scattered” and it lacks of the “block
blood”. |
